Old ASUS Eee Cannot Get Past GRUB RESCUE>

MY BAD

This problem can be closed (or solved)

Embarrassed to say that the problem was in the BIOS, not the GRUB!

In addition to the usual boot priority list menu (hard-disk, USB, CDROM, etc), there was another list item that asked whether to choose an internal disk or a USB device as a hard disk!

Of course it was set to internal disk, not the USB.

Once fixed, the system booted from, and installed my Lubuntu ISO USB easily.

In the meantime, I have become somewhat of an expert on "Grub Rescue>" commands!

While attempting to upgrade an old ASUS eee (2 Gb, 16 GB "disk") from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04, I erred and used the x64 version of 18.04, instead of the i386 Lubuntu.

Now, the system is stuck on "grub rescue>".

It will not boot from the "RAM". a USB, a CDROM (via (USB), or even if I set the BIOS to "no hardidsk found".

What Grub Rescue commands can I use to at least free up the RAM and get the BIOS to see my bootable Lubuntu 18.04 i386 USB drive?

The Craziest Ces Booth Threatened Me with Chainsaws and Soldiers
The Craziest Ces Booth Threatened Me with Chainsaws and Soldiers
I'm blindfolded, my nerves tingling as the sound of a chainsaw approaches, the gas fumes wafting up my nose as it gets closer. The chainsaw passes by, and moments later I hear a woman scream. The blindfolds come off, and I'm staring at a woman who says, "I am here of my own free will," before downing a vial of pink liquid. Laser-like sounds blare as a number of colors flash, and then it goes blue as everything is silent and she retreats into a dead stare. (You can see the videohere.) A mad scientist wearing a long white lab coat barks, "Nothing will be the same after this." Trending News Google Cloud Outage Missing Connecticut Mom Virginia Beach Shooting Protester Interrupts Harris Would you believe this is a booth for smart beauty care products? TVs and voice assistants rule the biggest days at CESCES 2018: Complete coverage of the world's biggest technology show from CNETCESis known for the eye-popping spectacles likemodular televisionsorgiant racing mechs, but this booth -- which less a show exhibit and more stage performance -- takes things to a whole new level. It made for one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had at a CES. Withroughly 184,000 attendees and more than 4,000 exhibitors, sometimes it's worth taking that extra step to stand out. Health and auto tech dominate CES 2018 The culprit behind this madness: A Swedish beauty care company called Foreo, which pitches itself as a "smart" beauty care brand (and who isn't smart at this show?). The not-so-subtle message was this dystopian vision was analogous to how beauty care products are developed by its old-fashioned and established rivals, and that Foreo represented something new and different."This is not the traditional beauty booth with white chairs," said Trisha Mendiola, head of strategy and programming in the Americas for Foreo.Regardless of the message, I had to applaud the stage craft.Unless you knew the brand ahead of time -- and I didn't -- Foreo masterfully built up the suspense. The entire booth is fenced off, with numerous warning signs and employees in military fatigues and body armor patrolling the entrance. Curious, I asked one of the "guards" what this was. He said I would only find out if I went inside. So I took one of his blindfolds and joined a line of other convention-goers. Minutes later, he barked at us to put on the blindfolds, and I marched into the booth. As we walked forward, heat blasted on one side (that was supposed to represent one of the skin care treatments --I think). When we took out blindfolds off, we were greeted by the scientist and three people, or test subjects, wearing yellow sheets. Their faces were covered in saran wrap. The scientists ranted, and each of the three test subjects took turns drinking the liquid. The second one protested, it led to the chainsaw and screaming. CES 2018 trends: Augmented reality and flexible screens At one point, one of the visitors used flashed photography (warning signs said that was a no no) and an armored guard dragged him out. He was later brought back in -- wearing the yellow sheet and saran wrap -- and repeated the same ritual of drinking the pink liquid (of his own free will, of course). The whole proceeding had me questioning where I was and what the heck this was all about. It wasn't until the end when I filed out near the exit that I found out Foreo was hawking beauty products, like a 20-second mask that's supposed to replace a 20-minute facial mask for skin care. It's onKickstarter, having raised $375,000, or 19 times its goal of $20,000. And like everything else at CES, it's connected to an app.To be honest, getting confirmation that this was ultimately a pitch about a product, and not some statement on horrors of tech, felt like a bit of a let down. But hey, I'm writing about beauty care products, so clearly Foreo got the best of me.CES 2018: Complete coverage of the world's biggest technology show from CNET.This article originally appeared on CNET.

Aborted Operating System Install Keeps Running on Boot
EDIT: Discussion in the comment thread showed that this is incorrect because the Bootloader that should be modified here has in fact been put there by Windows 7 setup. So MBRFix/FixMBR it is.What's happening here is that Windows 7 setup is still registered in the Windows boot manager on your startup partition (that's the one Windows XP is on). You'll need to delete Windows 7 setup from the Bootmanager list on your hard drive. There's an excellent article on Microsoft Support about this: How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP You should be seeing two entries there: one for your Windows XP, and one for the Windows 7 installer. Remove the latter, and you should be fine from then on.I recently asked this question about how I couldn't get Windows 7 installed on my system.Since then it turns out my system is not compatible, however whenever I boot my machine the installer tries to run. What is a good Samsung laptop with a good Cyberlink Youcam between $300 and $500?The Samsung Series 3 is nice. There are two versions currently. You have to search the website (bestbuy.com) manually because linking there does not work. The one that is $479 is a good standard size 15" notebook. It's got a nice high MP webcam and brushed metal finish. I just recently bought the $679 one, which is a little more than you wanted to spend but it goes on sale for under $600 from time to time. That laptop is super thin, nearly as thin as the Macbook Air. It is small though, with only a 12" screen, it is meant for people who do a lot of travelling. It also does not have a disc drive. Both laptops have a matte screen, and chicklet (Macbook) style keyboard5. how do i restore my samsung laptop R480 to factory settings? Most of the time for laptop's, they have recovery partitions located on the hard drive. However, in some cases they do not and require external reinstallation disks. You should check which one you have or need and approach the situation. You should also back up your important files. This is important because if you do not and you reformat your laptop, all the files will be wiped, including files you may consider important. You can use a device known as an IDE/SATA to USB Adapter (google "BT-300 topmicrousa"). This device is great since you are able to back up files at an extremely fast rate and its really durable as well. Once you back up your files, reformat the hard drive and recopy the files. What should I do to repair the start-up problem in my Samsung laptop?First of all that you USB drive you were trying to use was either not propely wirrten (bootable) or you were not able to boot from USB due to some reason.Well what i would recommend is in case you have great deal of data in the partition you are going to install the windows :1)Take the HDD Out of laptop. (Opening the HDD block does not void your warranty, refer to google for taking HDD out of laptops). 2)Plug it some desktop computer,it uses the same SATA interface.3)Let that desktop boot from its own core drive.Once you enter into windows, after your drives appear you can copy straight away all of your data. But still if you want the data at your desktop, downloads,my docs etc you can find that in the drive in which your OS was installed under Drive:/Users4)Now install the hdd in your laptop completely format it and reinstall the Windows via DVD or USB drive (refer google for more).5)Get back your data by plugging your HDD in that desktop again.Well as an a better and easy alternate you can download live Ubuntu and use it to transfer data to some external HDD or any other partition you are going to install the OS in. What should I do to repair the start-up problem in my Samsung laptop?

The idea for Read Across The Aisle came (from our founder's wife, a professor of American History) from the fact that the most popular color scheme for using BeeLine is red and blue. Given the acrimonious political climate, we decided to build an app that brings red and blue together — literally and figuratively.BeeLine Reader is a startup based in Woodside, CA. Can I Remove This SSD Partition From My Hard Disk Storage?
Can I Remove This SSD Partition From My Hard Disk Storage?
I've not seen a partition named SSD Reserved before, and I'd be surprised if it were required for booting. Normally a 100MB 'System Reserved' partition could be made, which is detailed hereThis stub of a partition, which is new in Windows 7, serves two functions. First, it holds the Boot Manager code and the Boot Configuration Database. Second, it reserves space for the startup files required by the BitLocker Drive Encryption feature. If you ever decide to encrypt your system drive using BitLocker, you wont have to repartition your system drive to make it possible. As I'm not sure if this is that partition or not, as it would usually be labelled differently, you could do two things:Check the contents of the partition by Right clicking on the partition, and clicking Change Drive Letter and Paths. Add an unused drive letter and browse the contents, it should be quite easy to search for any files you found and see if they're related to a system reserved partition.Disconnect the drive from your machine and see if the machine has any trouble booting. Test it and if you have no issues, it's safe to assume it's not going to cause any harm removing the one partition. In all honesty, it's such a small amount of space it probably isn't worth the hassle to remove it and then resize the large partition to fill the space (You can't resize to the left of the partition as easily as to the right, the contents will need to be shifted left and then the expansion made after the partition). Personally, I'd leave it be, it's doing no harm.My disk partitions are like this:C is an SSD with the OS. Raspberry Pi 3 and UPS Pico HV3.0A, Cold Boot
I'm no expert on the topic but I believe that the Pi will still place a load on your ups after it is shut down. Furthermore although you can't boot up your Pi using your pico ups what you could do is place a button between the ups and the Pi to allow you to temporarily cut power to the Pi, which would boot the Pi. Anther possible solution to your problem and this is the solution that I would recommend is that you google tutorials on reducing your pi's power usage so that you can have it run for longer on battery instead of having to turn it off.I am already building a Pi 3 mobile project, with a 5 inch screen, Bluetooth keyboard and so on. What Ii am interested in is using the new version of UPS Pico HV3.0A, that supports up to 3A of current, to power my project. The question is this: Does any one know whether this UPS supports cold boot? I mean the ups is supposed to provide power when there is no external USB power, given that already the Pi has booted and generating a pulse train, (produced by the software daemons). So if the Pi is shutdown, there is no external USB power. Is there anyway for the UPS to start providing power and boot the Pi?I searched a lot in the UPS manual and the UPS Pico forums but nothing came up.So if someone has any ideas, I would appreciate the help.·OTHER ANSWER:I am already building a Pi 3 mobile project, with a 5 inch screen, Bluetooth keyboard and so on. Is This Possible to Improve Boot Time?
Is This Possible to Improve Boot Time?
Give yourself something to watch while booting and it will appear to be quicker1. macOS Mojave boot option disappeared from rEFInd, grub error at bootThis likely means the ubuntu entry is still in the EFI partition. You can boot in recovery mode by holding the command R keys at boot time.Make sure to make a backup if you do not have one!You can run disk aid first and repair the partitions and see if that helps. If not, in the top bar choose Terminal and run:and find the EFI partion. The partition name in the example is when it's disk 0, partition 1 (change accordingly). Mount it with the command:Then remove the ubuntu entry:There may be other unwanted folders there, the Apple one you want to keep. If that does not work, you can do a reinstall, again by booting to Recovery and selecting that option. If that does not work, there may be issues with the disk. You can try to boot from an external drive then and see if you an access the data and make a backup if you were enable to before. Then try a complete reinstall wiping the disk if you get errors with that, the issue may be physical, not software and it's likely time to replace the disk.2. Boot Camp flash drive not showing on boot for late 2009 iMacI see you were able to successfully install Windows 10 by modifying the procedure given here. At some point in the future, I should replace this answer with a procedure similar to what you followed. In my answer, I did state that I would need additional information before recommending changes to the steps given. Apple has published that you can run Windows on a second internal drive, but you can not install Windows on the second drive. Apple recommends removing the first drive, installing Windows and then reinstalling the first drive. This is not a practical solution for MBP users. I still have no more information about the partitioning of your internal drives than when you first posted your question. However, you may wish to try this older post regarding installing Windows: How do I install Windows 10 on MacBookPro5,1, with no optical drive (SSDHDD)Apple recommends using an USB optical SuperDrive to install Windows when the internal optical drive in unavailable. Even though Apple documentation states a late 2009 iMac does not support Windows 10, this may not be true. I installed Windows 10 on my mid 2007 iMac. In fact, this post was entered using Windows 10 on this Mac. Generally, you should install using the latest drivers issued for your model Mac. Installing directly from the iso file is possible, but the process is tedious. You also have to install free third party software. The steps would be similar to the answer given here. Of course, you do not have the standard OS X installation configuration. I would require addition information regarding the partitioning of your internal drives, before recommending changes to the steps given. If interested, submit a comment below

The Selected Boot Device Failed When Attempting to Boot a Live USB on My Device
Ok, here is what I've found out:The system has a 32bit UEFI, while Ubuntu (and all other distros I know) currently only supports 64bit UEFI. I managed to do the following:rEFInd now tries to boot the live system. As I removed the quiet splash options, I could see the boot log. However, after a few seconds, the screen turned black. I have not yet found out where the black screen comes from or what causes it, but I doubt it is an X11 issue, as CtrlAltDel reboots the system, which wouldn't happen if the graphical environment were running. But I managed to boot the kernel from the live system, which technically could count as booting the live system ;)However, I decided not to try installing Ubuntu any further, but I think this procedure can be helpful if someone else runs into a similar problem.UPDATE: After some more annoyances by Windows, I tried again. The solution for the black screen was simple: Added the nomodeset argument to the boot options, and the system properly booted. However, half of the device's hardware, including both WiFi and Bluetooth adapters, is not recognized (I'm not talking about no drivers, I'm talking about not even found by the system, e.g. listed in lshw). So I guess I'll have to stick to Windows, then.Today I received my new convertible device, a HP Pavilion x2 10-n015n, which came preinstalled with Windows 8.1 32bit.As I'd like to - at least testwise - install Ubuntu GNOME on it, I created a bootable USB stick with the 14.04 LTS ISO of Ubuntu GNOME.
