Sounds like what I went through at your age. The thing I did was to completely give up and submit myself to the will of the universe. In practical terms, that meant that I started saying "yes" to literally everything that I thought or that came my way. For example, if I had a fleeting thought that I might enjoy doing a particular thing, rather than analyzing it and taking myself out of doing it, I would just get up and do it. If I saw somebody who looked interesting, rather than thinking about it, I would force myself to go and talk to them. If I overheard somebody I did not know saying they wished they knew someone who would drive to Canada with them, I would volunteer and go. Those are trivial examples, and I did far more profound (and dangerous) things, but the outcome of this was that I realized that situations are what you make of them, and everything has the potential to bring happiness when approached the right way. Self-esteem is something that can take a lot of time to build up. What I did to develop it was to take an interest in the things that *I* was interested in, not what everybody else said was important, and I became an expert in those things. Self-consciousness is a disease, literally dis-ease, and in my case it was the result of my caring too much about what everybody else thought of me. The fact is nobody really cares about anybody else: they care about themselves. Ignore what other people think of you, and be the judge of yourself. If you see something about yourself that you do not like, work on improving it, incrementally. By focusing your energies on yourself and following your own interests, be they online, social, academic, or anything else, you can not help but develop a sense of self-worth. I've noticed two kinds of self-esteem in people: genuine confidence and arrogance. Avoid developing the latter -- although it does work for a lot of people (the jerks). Every situation is both a blessing and a curse. While sometimes enjoyable, having friends can be an incredible time-suck and a major bummer, so much so that being alone becomes something one longs for. As for being alone, that obviously can be difficult to deal with, but it also gives you the uninterrupted time to spend with your best friend: your future self. Give that person every gift you can think of, today and every day: your future self really is a different person, and you are best friends whether you realize it or not. And most importantly, be patient, both with yourself and with the world. While it's hard to accept, your life has barely even begun, and there's a vast ocean of enjoyment at your feet. All setbacks are temporary, and they disappear most quickly when they are simply ignored or laughed at. Enjoy what you are doing, or find something to do that you enjoy, feel no guilt about it, and do not concern yourself with the things that you are not yet doing -- they will come eventually. If you really believe that nothing matters, go visit the favelas in Brazil or the slums in Haiti or anywhere in India like I have. That should do wonders for you in terms of realizing that you have EVERYTHING compared to the vast majority of people in the world -- and the luxury to waste it all.

can you suggest games or activities that will help develop children's self-esteem?

these arent really games but they might be worth a try... For each half day of the week, make it a target for everyone to say something nice or kind to someone else. I had this as a target for my class last year for a week and although they needed a bit of reminding it was lovely to hear one kid say to another 'Oh, you read that really well' or 'i like your shoes today' or something. The kids positively beamed!! The other thing is a kindness box. My friend used this in her class the whole of last year ( i just never got round to implementing it!!) Every time a kid sees/hears someone else doing something good they can write a note and post it in the box - either anonymously or they can put their name on it. At the end of the week all the entries in the box are read out!! Even as an adult it makes you feel good when someone notices and mentions a good deed you did - imagine the impact it has on kids!! With the little ones, they can tell an adult and it can be written down for the kids who suggested it to 'post' into the box. Good luck. Hope you have a fun week! :)
